Chain of Fools : Upgrading through every version of Windows
This is just brilliant. Mental, but brilliant.
Couldn’t do this on a Mac. The oldest OS you could put on a current model would be Tiger (if that - you’d probably have to image it to do it).
And if you did it on say, the last PowerPC based Mac ever made, the Dual Core G5, you’d have to start at System 7 (No PowerPC support before then) and all your Classic stuff would break when (or if) you got to Leopard. Then it wouldn’t go any further.
Congratulations Microsoft, I guess?
Awesome as a party trick, but this is the most likely reason for Windows being a poorly innovating, cruft filled polished turd. As long as you can cleanly migrate your personal settings you should be able to install a completely new OS every time. Right?
Apps need binary compatibility but how far do you want to go back with compatibility. Allow me to draw the line for modern OSes (not including Windows) at 2 major versions, which works out to be two years. Since it took Windows about 8 years between XP and 7 (who wants to count the Vista trainwreck?), one major version should well and truly do it.
