I was just watching Lateline and could not believe what I heard… (I’m paraphrasing)
Joe Hockey: You’re asking me to talk about numbers that I’m not qualified to look into.
Leigh Sales: But… you’re the Shadow Treasurer…
Joe Hockey: But I’m not an economist… There are much more qualified economists in the public sector to turn to for that information. Two things.
- The Liberal Party know Joe Hockey’s portfolio cost them the last election right?
- Interestingly enough, the only economics degree in the Australian parliament belongs current Trade Minister (and ex-labor leader) Simon Crean.
I know Rudd/Swan aren’t going so great with their initial responses to the economic crisis (last year’s 10 billion dollar handout was a waste in my opinion, and any stimulus package should also not really include such handouts) but do you see what they’re up against? You can see why Turnbull desperately wanted Costello to return.
Enough Aussie politics, back to the normal crap.
Actually, on point two, yourself and Peter Martin share the FAIL - however I do like the idea of actually having a qualified economist as treasurer rather than a qualified liar lawyer (apologies for the typo).
